What is GIS?

The Geographic Information System (GIS) is a technology used to create, manage, analyze and visualize information geographically on a map. This can help staff and the public understand patterns, relationships, and geographic context to improve communication, efficiency, management and decision-making.

FAQs

How do I find my property lines?

The only definitive way to determine the property line is to obtain a survey by a licensed surveyor.

Property owners are responsible for verifying their property lines. GIS can help you get an idea of where your property lines are, but these are only approximate. Use the Public Web Map, use the search bar with your Parcel ID, Name, or Property Address to find your tax parcel. This can be used as a reference to find property pins which mark your property line, though these can be moved.

How can I know if a property can hook up to public utilities?

On the Public Web Map, we have layers for Sanitary Sewer and usually if sewer roads are present nearby or in front of the property it will be eligible to connect. These connections are handled on a case-by-case basis, please contact the Public Works department to ensure connections to public utilities, 269-216-5252 or publicworks@oshtemo.org.
